Italy will host the Winter Olympics in 2026, officially known as the Milano Cortina Games — the nation’s fourth time staging the Olympic Games and the 35th edition of the Winter Olympics overall.
For the first time, the event will bring the Winter Games to Milan, with competitions taking place across both Milan’s urban venues and Cortina’s mountain settings. Italy previously welcomed the Olympics in Cortina d’Ampezzo (1956), Rome (1960, Summer Games), and Turin (2006). The Opening Ceremony is planned for February 6, launching 16 days of sport and celebration, before the Closing Ceremony on February 22. Some events, including curling, snowboard big air, and ice hockey, will begin a few days earlier.
